In 2015, the European Week for Waste Reduction (EWWR) will take place between 21 and 29 November. In its 7th edition, EWWR has each year gathered more fans around the issues of waste prevention. While National Waste Authority, the APA ensures since 2009 the national organization of the European Week for Waste Reduction (EWWR), with the main goal to raise awareness on the importance of prevention as a key factor in implementing the waste management hierarchy.

Projects dedicated to the prevention and reduction of municipal waste, including EWWR can get capital gains ensured at regional level, in particular the level of performance of the Municipal Waste Management Systems (SGRU), which more closely coexisting with the different regional realities better assess the performance requirements and better fit the specific goals and the local prevention strategy.

For more information about your participation in this project, either as regional organizer or as a proponent of actions, see the European Project Portal in http://www.ewwr.eu/take-part.

The organizers should contact regional organizers in their field of expertise and the European secretariat in other areas. Check out the organizer of your geographic region in http://www.ewwr.eu/en/coordinators/ewwr.

Registrations are made directly at the European www.ewwr.eu website following the link http://www.ewwr.eu/register and validated by the regional organizer. As in the previous year, possible themes are:

  • Prevention and reduction of the production of waste at source and preparation for reuse
  • Waste separation and recycling
  • European Day of Action Cleaning (Clean-Up Day)

The theme of the EWWR 2015 will be the dematerialization. See the Good Practice Guide EWWR. The actions listed here are just an example. Give rise to your imagination to create and implement different and innovative actions in their day-to-day. Just follow your inspiration and develop activities that best suit their goals. Most importantly, act to prevent.

Test your behavior and learn to actively contribute to waste prevention by going to Simula Less Waste (http://simula-residuos.apambiente.pt/).

Be sure to be part of this initiative, participate!
