The University Institute of Lisbon - ISCTE-IUL will promote the event "U-Bike Portugal: The Pedaling Academy - ISCTE-IUL", launching of the U-Bike Portugal Project, in partnership with Universidade Nova de Lisboa, Instituto Superior Técnico and Instituto Politécnico do Cávado e Ave. The event will be held in the Auditorium JJ Laginha, ISCTE-IUL, between 10:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. on October 10, 2017. The U-Bike Portugal Project, through the financing of the Operational Program Sustainability and Efficiency in the Use of Resources (PO SEUR), aims to encourage cycling mobility in academic communities, intending that by the year 2018, more than 2,412 cycles should be cycled. 141 km with an estimated energy saving of 166,34 toe (tonnes of oil equivalent) and a reduction in carbon dioxide emissions of 505 tCO2eq (tonnes of CO2 equivalent).

In this context, 3,234 bicycles, 2,096 electric and 1,138 conventional bicycles will be acquired, which will be distributed by 15 higher education institutions, corresponding to a total investment of more than six million euros and to the allocation of a Cohesion Fund amount of around 4 , 7 million euros.

In order to maximize the results to be achieved, more than 230 communication products, awareness raising and promotion of sustainable mobility will be developed to cover 174,416 individuals from the adhering academic communities.
