Under the Call for Applications issued by the Operational Programme Sustainability and Efficient Use of Resources (PO SEUR) for actions of "Defense Network Installation against Forest Fires" 10 applications were approved, corresponding to an approved Cohesion Fund amount of 36 million euros, corresponding to a total investment of 4.2 million euros.
Therefore and in order to increase the resilience of the territory and reduce the risk of forest fires, PO SEUR will co-finance investments in network defense against forest fires in non-private land (common land and state land or Local Government). These investments include the installation of the primary network (planned at district level) and secondary network, as well as the improvement of forest roads, the latter associated with the primary network and access to first-rate water points.
Under the approved projects will be executed separation corridors of vegetation in order to create discontinuities in order to reduce the extent and spread in order to prevent large fires, constituting subdivision infrastructure indispensable to structuring options for fire by civil protection agents, the defense of continuous forest patches of forestry and forest stands of special value.
Approved applications out to the Institute for Nature Conservation and Forestry I.P. (ICNF), involving a total amount of 1.6 million euros from the Cohesion Fund and aims to implement 1,458 ha of primary network in the regions (NUT II) of Alto Tamega, Ave, Beiras and Serra da Estrela, Coimbra , West, Leiria and Lezíria do Tejo. The remaining approved applications are from Municipalities of Paredes de Coura, Arcos de Valdevez, Viana do Castelo, Vale de Cambra, Gouveia, Covilhã, Arganil, Góis and Melgaço.
