Until 22 September European citizens will have a full week dedicated to sustainable mobility. The aim of this initiative is to facilitate a broad debate on the need for behavioral changes in relation to mobility, specifically regarding the use of private cars. As always, Car Free Day will be the culmination of all-day activities. The National Campaign shares the European objectives for the recovery of the environmental quality of cities.

The main objectives of this Campaign are:

  • Encourage the development of behavior compatible with sustainable development, and in particular with the protection of air quality, mitigation of global warming and noise reduction;
  • Conscientialize citizens for the effects that their choice of a mode of transport will have on the quality of the environment;
  • Provide citizens with opportunities to travel by foot, use bicycle and public transport instead of the private car, and promote intermodality;
  • Provide citizens with an opportunity to rediscover their city or town, its inhabitants and its heritage, in a healthier and more pleasant environment.
