Published today, November 30, was a Call for Applications/Invitation code POSEUR-11-2015-32 under the Waste Recovery in Ecoparque of São Miguel Island. This Call for Applications/Invitation is directed to MUSAMI - Municipal Operations EIM Ambiente, SA and is part of the Priority Axis 3 of the Program.

Support under this call aims to substantiate a commitment to the environment through the conservation and enhancement of resources for the promotion of waste as a resource, as well as by-products, with effect in protecting nature and biodiversity through the landscape enhancement and protection biodiversity and combating climate change, increasing the energy efficiency of the Azores, particularly on the island of São Miguel, reducing and offsetting emissions.

In the Azores the aim is to overcome the current situation (landfill) and it is not technically possible nor environmentally safe in island territories of small/medium size. The contribution to the European targets for recycling and recovery of waste, overcoming the constraints of island specificities, implies a strategy that involves providing the territory of a set of systems for the treatment, recovery or disposal of the various types of waste, with the islands to play different roles in this process, because of their potential and dimension.

In order to address the current shortcomings of the eastern group of the waste management system of the archipelago islands and particularly the island of São Miguel and especially the need to find a future solution, an Integrated Management System for Solid Waste will be developed supported by an economic, social and environmental vision called for "Ecopark of Sao Miguel Island."

The period for submission of applications will run until 18:00 on 15 March 2016.
